During the winter of 2018 I received some stuff from my childhood that had been stored at my partents' house. One of those things were my old Game Boy (the original from ca 1989). It didn't require too much to get it started, just some new batteries and then to insert and remove the cartridge a few times. Amazing!

Well, I had some time on my hands, so I decided that I wanted to make a game for the Game Boy (see Tesla's Kitten).

When I had finished making the game Tesla's Kitten, I thought that I would not make any more games to the Game Boy. Strangely enough I started making this game "Jump!" within a week of the first game.

The game is quite simple, you control a ball that shall jump up onto platforms that arrive from the side. If you don't jump at the right moment, then you will collide with the platforms and fall down. However, I didn't implement a falling animation, so the game just stops and shows a game over popup.

The game is available for download here: Jump!.zip.
You can use your favorite Game Boy emulator to run the game, or use a cartridge (e.g. an EverDrive-GB). I was using the BGB GameBoy emulator/debugger while developing and liked that one (BGB).
There are 2 versions of the game inside the ZIP archive. The only thing that differs is that the one named "SRAM" has been compiled for a cartridge with an MBC1 (a special chip on the cartridge), which allows for saving e.g. the high scores on a battery backed SRAM. The other version does not save the high scores between sessions.
This is the sticker for the cartridge. I am planning to order my game on a newly made cartridge and use this sticker.

I also made an "instruction booklet", just so that it would feel more like a real Game Boy game.
